Research interests:
Tessa has been conducting research in the area of equality and discrimination at work for many years, initially for the labour movement at the Labour Research Department and then at the Working Lives Research Institute, London Metropolitan University before joining Queen Mary. Her research has covered the experience of women, ethnic minorities, migrant workers and lesbians, gay men and bisexuals in the labour market and workplace. She is particularly interested in the intersection of multiple identities, which is the focus of her PhD thesis which is nearing completion on the intersections of gender, sexuality and class in male-dominated work. Additionally Tessa has an interest in trade union action to address inequality at work and the role of union Equality Reps. She has recently published an edited book the Gower Handbook of Discrimination at Work (2011) jointly with Dr Hazel Conley.
