Project Title:

"Varieties of Capitalism in Central Eastern Europe: An In-depth Analysis of of the Historical Legacies, External Influences and Institutional Set-up of the Romanian Model in Comparative Perspective"

Project Description:

The aim of my research project is to shed light on the variety of capitalism that Romania has converged to since the early 2000s. We must remember that national business systems do not exist in a vacuum that prevents any type of transformation, but instead Romania, similiar to the other transition economies, ended its experimentation with uncompetitive frameworks and pursued the path of a more competitive model.

What I attempt to do in my research project is overcome the major criticisms of the Varieties of Capitalism literature, which doesn't account for international influences on nation states and at the same time, downplays the role of the state as a shaping actor. Moreover, I will try to evidence the institutional and structural diversity prevalent in Central Eastern Europe, analysing from a comparative perspective the case studies of Poland and the Czech Republic, comparing and contrasting them to the Romanian model.
