Research interests:
Prof Martins studies wage determination, focusing on some of the multiple factors that influence it: skills, the business cycle, employment regulations and international issues (mostly FDI and trade). A related interest concerns the determinants of employment levels and firm performance. His research is or has been sponsored by a variety of bodies, including the ESRC, European Commission, British Academy, IPEA, and FCT. Prof Martins is also a research fellow of IZA (Bonn) and CEG-IST (Lisbon).
