Description

Reward management is one of the key components of human resource management. It is one of the most sensitive and problematic areas of people management that poses additional issues when cast in an international setting. The module starts by giving students an international empirical and theoretical grounding before applying this knowledge to conceptual issues such as equality, fairness, performance and motivation. These issues are examined at a number of levels: internationally, nationally and organizationally by engaging with topical case studies and practical examples.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • understand and differentiate between national and corporate reward structures
  • analyse international pay and reward data
  • understand and be able to critically analyse the theoretical models that have historically and are currently used to explain the central theme of pay and reward in human resource management
  • apply empirical and theoretical knowledge to key concepts in relation to reward such as equality, fairness and performance
  • understand and assess some of the tools that are used by reward managers
  • gain negotiating skills in relation to reward management

Assessment

70% Essay (3000 words) and 30% Report (1,500 words)
