Management Theory (BUS228)
Module code: BUS228
Module organiser: Professor Mick Rowlinson
Management might appear to be commonsense, but if we look at the history of management thinking it is clear that ideas about management have changed over time. In the early twentieth century Frederick Taylor developed the idea of scientific management. Reactions to scientific management have defined management thinking ever since. This has contemporary relevance because even today one for the best ways to criticize or dismiss a management idea is to describe it as Taylorist or Scientific Management in disguise. This module will not only consider the contemporary relevance of management ideas such as Taylor’s but also the way in which these ideas influence current thinking.
