Business and Management undergraduate student selected as a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Student of the Year award.
Muad Akkari, a final year student has been involved with three start-ups alongside studying Business and Management; PixelBlock Studios, a web development and design company; BreathR, a professional networking app for entrepreneurs and SickCover a platform which allows school teachers to recruit students directly without the use of recruitment agencies.
He is exceptionally passionate about SickCover as "It allows schools to reallocate resources from booking fees that are paid to recruitment agencies into investing in children’s education".
His innovative start-up has caught the government's attention and has plans to expand its accessibility so it can be used in more schools."We are currently in talks with the Education Secretary about rolling it out nationwide".
Muad wants to continue working with start-ups that have a social impact as that is what he is most passionate about.
The Engagement and Enterprise Awards 2017 held on Tuesday 7th February recognised outstanding achievement in public engagement, academic innovation, student enterprise and public relations across QMUL, showcasing 42 projects that demonstrate excellence in the application and dissemination of research and teaching. Finalists included co-produced film projects, museum exhibitions, performance-led social action, business spin-outs and media campaigns, among many others.
